Heavy-duty dog seat belts: what to look for

A heavy-duty dog seat belt has strong, wide webbing, a solid metal swivel clip (not plastic), secure bar-tack stitching, and adjustable length. Avoid thin straps and plastic clips. "Universal" simply means it fits any standard seatbelt socket.

Are cheap dog seat belts safe?
Some are fine, but many cut corners on webbing, stitching and clips. Check for wide webbing, a metal clip and reinforced stitching rather than choosing on price alone.
Metal or plastic clip — does it matter?
Yes. A solid metal swivel clip resists cracking and twisting under load; plastic clips are a common failure point. Choose metal.
What does 'universal' dog seat belt mean?
It means the metal tongue fits any standard vehicle seatbelt socket — the same one you buckle into — so it works across most cars, estates, SUVs and vans.
